My speech therapy room is full of personality and students with many unique and diverse needs and I wouldn’t have it any other way! My students range from kindergarten to fourth grade and all receive speech therapy for a variety of needs to help support their understanding and use of language within the educational setting. My students are enthusiastic and eager learners, but need many kinds of supports for success in the academic setting.
I find importance in empowering my students to be the best versions of themselves.
In my speech room, my students are superstars and know that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE if they always try their best. I consistently challenge myself in finding new, creative, and exciting ways to teach my students so that they can continue to embrace their learning and always work to their highest abilities and potential.
My Project
Students learn best when they feel comfortable in a space with minimal distractions. My work space is smaller than an average classroom, as I work with small groups of children, and storage spaces are minimal. One of my biggest daily struggles is locating resources and materials that I have already purchased or created when planning lessons for the upcoming week. I often find myself recreating activities or seeking out new materials when I have limited time to locate items. I need to create an organized space for my own sanity, but more importantly for my students because they deserve the best planned lessons and a learning environment that is free from distractions and clutter.
It is my goal to decrease the clutter and stacks of paper and create a learning space that is clean, clear, and colorful.
The organization of my space and learning will afford me more time for planning, as I will be able to locate tools and resources that have been lost in boxes, bins, and pushed to the back of shelves.
The satchel boxes will help me to organize my book units and themes more efficiently. The hanging shelves will not only create a stylish space, but also allow me to display 3x5 card boxes containing thematic cards that often get pushed to the back of shelves and forgotten about. The mini storage boxes will allow me to organize mini laminated cards that are currently in envelopes and plastic storage bags. Once these items are organized and easily accessible, my “out of sight, out of mind” work life will be a thing of the past and I can spend more time focusing on creating amazing learning opportunities and experiences for my students!
