My students often struggle to find internal balance and self-regulation of their sensory needs and demonstrate a need for additional supports to maintain focus and attention to help them learn best. That’s where flexible seating comes in! I want to create a calming space for my students to learn. I want to add a low-to-the-ground table where we can sit on soft and wobble cushions and pillows, as well as floor seat with backs to support the variety of sensory needs of my students. “Allowing my students to enter my calming speech space and choose a seat that will best fit their needs will offer the feeling of being comfortable and grounded while simultaneously increasing the length of sustained attention and promoting opportunities to soar successfully into learning.” Meeting sensory needs is an integral part of improving student focus and attention for success in learning. Help me give my students the opportunity to make choices in their learning beginning with their seats.
