My Project

The YAK PACK Comics and Phonics books will provide a resource for teachers, tutors, and interventionists to use with their struggling students. We have a lot of students in the upper grades who are still struggling with foundational reading skills. Graphic novels are very popular with students right now. I believe the comic stories in the YAK PACK series will engage all grade levels, but especially the older students when practicing different phonic concepts. For example, instead of giving a 3rd grader a decodable book for short vowels (generally geared towards a Kindergarten or 1st-grade student), they will have a fun comic story to practice reading short vowels.

No matter what grade the student is in, they will fall in LOVE with reading using the decodable comic stories!

Yak Pack's Sight Word comics use the HEART WORD approach to teaching commonly used words. This aligns with the science of reading. Instead of students using rote memorization to learn high-frequency words, they will sound out the word and identify the part that has to be learned by heart.

Our K-2 students will benefit from these resources but most importantly our older struggling readers will have a chance to fall in LOVE with reading!
