Decision Day Tie Dye Party

My students need supplies to tie-dye shirts in the colors of the college they decide to enroll in. The tie-dye kit will have enough supplies for a large number of students.

My Students

My seniors are incredibly special. Throughout this school year, they have worked hard to complete the college application process, even though the process has become difficult to navigate. They are eager and motivated to plan their bright futures, and many have visions of where they want to be in the next 5 to 10 years: doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers, filmmakers, and many more world-changing roles.

My students are inspiring because they reach high despite the challenges that exist with being first-generation college students, coming from low-income backgrounds and underserved populations.

Celebrating their accomplishments is just as important as encouraging them through the college application process!

My Project

In order to encourage a college-going culture at my school, students should be able to celebrate their accomplishments of getting into college. The seniors have worked year-round to apply to college and apply for financial aid and scholarships. While they have been pushed throughout the year to step out of their comfort zone and think hard about their futures, having a celebration to recognize their efforts and achievements will encourage them to strive for even more in college.

The underclassmen look up to the seniors as role models, so highlighting our college-going students is as important as ever.

Having a tie dye party will allow seniors to create a memento of a great milestone in their lives. They will be given the opportunity to use the t-shirts and dyes to dye a t-shirt in the colors of the college they plan to attend in Fall 2018. When they wear their shirts to school, other students will feel encouraged to also pursue college as a postsecondary option!
