Dealing With Anxiety in Elementary School

Help me give my students tools to deal with anxiety. Each classroom would have 4 glitter wands to relax, and younger grade classes an expandable ball for learning breathing.

My Students

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic, the students at my school have experienced increased anxiety. The anxiety is showing up as withdrawing, crying, acting out and not coming to school. We have 461 students in our school and many of the families are struggling to survive and they are struggling to support the emotional needs of their kids.

Our students need to learn how to manage their emotions and cope with the problems in their life.

We have a 38% poverty rate and many different cultures in our school. As the school social worker, I am putting crisis out on a regular basis. The kids need to learn to manage their emotions so there is less crisis at the school.

My Project

This project will provide tools for students to learn to deal with increased anxiety and depression. Some of the books will be used as resources for myself, the school social worker, to teach about coping skills and anxiety in the classroom.

Each child will have some resources in the classroom to use when they become emotionally upset.

They can watch the glitter balls which will help them calm down. The younger grade children will have an expandable ball to help them with deep breathing which is one of the best tools for dealing with strong emotions.
