My Project

This is a friendly competition among students competing in a cupcake wars themed project similar to the TV show. Students create their own themed cupcakes & displays. Most students cannot afford what they need for their displays, which is the reason for my request here at DonorsChoose. The projects are judged by faculty & small rewards are given to winners. Students get excited & involved in this project. When students compete, they tend to be motivated & engaged in the process. This leads to improved attendance & positive attitudes towards school. Friendly competition encourages camaraderie which leads to a better overall dynamic. They learn living skills like cooking, meal planning, grocery shopping, & dining etiquette which are important to make sure they know how a home functions, how to contribute to maintaining a household. The art of cooking can be tough, but it is 100% rewarding once they learn.

The rewards of this lesson come with what can be learned from cooking, making mistakes, and having fun.

A great lesson is to forget everything else and focus on the present. Accept that mistakes will be made & embrace learning. One life lesson that that cooking teaches is, nothing comes out perfect. Students can apply this lesson learned from cooking in everyday life too! If they work with what they have, they’ll slowly realize perfection is overrated! The fact is it’s PERFECTLY NORMAL to be clueless about what you’re doing when you’re a beginner at something. If you want something in life, you have to put in the hard work. And whatever they make will be their very own labor of love they can be proud of!
