I teach 6 to 9 year-old students in a Montessori classroom. My students come from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They want to explore the world around them and use what they know to make the world a more peaceful place.
My students are creative thinkers who use their hands to manipulate materials in an environment that was prepared especially for them.
They enjoy working with hands-on materials, as this is a central concept to the Montessori philosophy.
My Project
Our students need these beautiful Montessori cultural materials to spark their thirst for learning about the world around them! We are requesting The Coming of the Universe timeline and materials which tell a story of how the earth was created. It is meant to be impressionistic to spark their interest and further research into matter, space, rocks, minerals, earth's composition, etc. We are also requesting The Timeline of Life bundle, which explores life on Earth in a linear fashion and also serves as a jumping off point for further research.
The linear representations of time that are evident on these timelines are what students at this age need to be able to grasp the passing of time and place in history.
To this end, we are also wanting to further broaden our students horizons with Music and Visual Arts timelines that will also go along with research cards and work that we already have in the classroom.
Lastly, we are requesting the Map Game, which is a work that further enhances skills the students have learned about geography, in a very fun and engaging way. Students use their imagination and previously learned information to create their own imaginary lands.
