My Students

Students in ELA 7 know that they will be held to high expectations from the second they walk in the door! While our routines are in place, the lessons aren't necessarily routine - students are asked to engage in skits, multimedia projects, Socratic seminars, and much more.

Students at JAMS come from a variety of backgrounds, and bring just as varied experiences to the classroom.

Students and teachers alike foster a "safe, respectful, prepared, and inclusive" environment daily. For example, this week is "spirit week," to help to discourage bullying and inclusive behavior at school.

My Project

At the beginning of the 2nd semester, Social Studies 7 will turn to Washington State History. With that, they will analyze the creation of our state's constitution. In ELA 7, we are hoping to have a cross curricular unit in which we read a text that is in line with the content in WA State History. This book, Nothing but the Truth, is in line with Common Core Standards as it's chapters are written in a variety of forms - e-mail, letter, diary, announcement, memo, etc.

Our school had to dive into our supply budget in order to retain teachers.

Without those funds, our school is unable to spend any money on new books. Since this is only our second year as a school, our book choice is limited. Support for this project would not only mean our students can read a novel, but read a novel that builds a bridge between SS and ELA!
