Help me give my students books for an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills about the world around them through literature. We will be implementing book clubs to allow for rich discussion and pairing with current events to add relevancy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at this middle school are talented, enthusiastic about learning, culturally diverse, and demonstrate perseverance in the face of economic disadvantages. Over 80% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunch, yet students still arrive with a smile on their faces.
Some of our beloved students are subjected to homelessness and poor living conditions, yet still find the strength to be successful.
Our school offers stability in an unstable world that allows our students to thrive. With over 2,300 students in the school, and class sizes as large as 33, it is difficult to allocate funds for so many in need students.
Reading offers new perspectives and common ground for our students to have open dialogue about. Books that reveal real world experience or dive in to complex themes are devoured, dissected, and discussed with vigor.
My Project
The selected materials will emphasize critical issues that are present in today's society. The selected books carry complex themes of identity, freedom, and oppression.
By examining these issues through the lens of Book Clubs, students are able to take an active role in their own learning.
The debates and discussion of how others developed the themes of these books echo in the actions of today's society. The goal of this book club project is inspire a new generation to develop a critical eye in their world around them and to promote peaceful action in everyday life.
“Reading is not walking on the words; it's grasping the soul of them.”
