This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school with varying needs. We are a Title I school where the majority of students come from low-income families thus qualifying for free or reduced meals. My students have high academic needs as English Language Learners. My school has been on a journey of becoming a Visual and Performing Arts School.
We just completed a unit study of protecting the environment celebrating Earth Day on April 22.
A classroom Cricut machine and books about the environment will excite my students to integrate art and sustainability. A Cricut will be a creative outlet for students to design and create various ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. A project my class is looking forward to is creating personalized designs on their own reusable water bottles and lunch containers (and a Mother's Day Vase if we are fortunate to have this project funded in time).
Students can further be creative by decorating their notebooks, binders, backpacks, and displaying their work on our classroom bulletin board. Books on the environment will create more awareness and build our classroom library.
