Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is in Rockland County, New York and is considered a high-needs, low-income district, serving a diverse group of students. Most of our scholars are ENL (English as New Language Learners) and receive free or reduced-price lunch. We are a Title I School and many of our future leaders are struggling readers. My school is a STEAM academy focusing on the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math across the curriculum. To successfully integrate these subject areas and develop 21st century skills, students are working collaboratively to achieve their goals.

As the library media specialist, I enjoy providing our scholars a multitude of experiences connecting them to the curriculum and enhancing their learning while allowing them to come alive in the library.

In doing so, this allows them to transform their learning through critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.

My Project

Imagine being a STEAM Academy without the ability to integrate working technology. My scholars crave to be compassionate, kind problem solvers. Adding 21st century Chrome books to my library will help my scholars do just that. We currently are using Dell computers that are over 10 years old, running an outdated version of Windows. Think about 30 students logging in to computers that take 10-20 minutes to log into, when you only have 40 minutes to complete several tasks.

These 3 Chrome books will be just a beginning to allowing my scholars to become proactive, empathetic digital citizens using the 4C's while visiting the library learning commons.
