Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a wonderful group of students with special needs who benefit from structure, positive reinforcement, and sensory-based learning. That’s why having access to meaningful and motivating rewards is so important in helping them stay focused and regulated throughout the day.

Art is more than just a creative outlet—it's a calming, joyful activity that gives my students a well-earned break after challenging work.

This project will help fund a variety of art supplies and sensory-friendly manipulatives that students can choose from. These materials will include:

Molding clay and dough for sensory regulation

Magna doodles, magnetic blocks and hedgehog blocks for building sculptures

Beads and string for simple jewelry-making

Fidget tools and textured manipulatives for calming play

These tools will be organized in clearly labeled, student-accessible bins, allowing each child to choose a calming or creative activity as a reward for their hard work.

For many of my students, motivation and emotional regulation are key to learning success. By offering meaningful, low-stress, hands-on art choices as rewards, I can support their social-emotional growth, fine motor skills, and sense of autonomy. These moments of creativity not only bring joy—they also help students reset, refocus, and return to learning with confidence.
