Help me give my students a variety of artistic enrichment opportunities (including painted birdhouses, glass etching, macrame plant holders, and clay friendship pendants) that can be used to help create our caring community.
Our school has challenged teachers to create a new Enrichment Program focusing on community service and educational projects. The enrichment students I'll be working with are high achievers, with good grades, even though we are in a low socio-economic school with the majority on free or reduced lunch.
We have no art supplies provided for this new enrichment program and are lacking funds to buy supplies needed to create, plan, and implement engaging enrichment activities.
Our community has many needs and we look forward to creating. engaging art activities to expose our students to enrichment activities with a focus on creating a caring community. We meet with these students every Wednesday.
My Project
My students love to create and express themselves through their art. These enrichment projects are things they've not had the opportunity to do before. Students are looking forward to building and painting wooden birdhouses to donate to nursing home residents. They will use Sculpey clay to create friendship pendants to share with elementary students. They will learn the art of macrame' to make plant and food bowl hangers and leashes for the local animal shelter. The process of glass-etching is new and exciting for them to learn and will provide opportunities for future fund-raising events.
These artistic enrichment projects (birdhouses, friend pendants, plant hangers and leashes) are things that my students have said they would like to experience.
It will provide my students the intrinsic experience of creating and sharing their projects with others in our community to help create a more caring community.
After completing their projects, students will have the opportunity to share their work with others in our community when we visit one of the local nursing homes, our local animal shelter, and also a nearby elementary school.
