Help me give my students what is necessary to make art during this pandemic and give them creative outlets. With these materials each student will have a supply box and they will not have to share them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and fun-loving kids. Many come from low income households and don't venture out of their urban community very often. When talking with them about wants and needs in life, art supplies would be in the want column. I have found that with distance learning Art has become a need. They have excelled in putting their feelings and emotions on paper with the small amount of supplies that they do have, some students had to use limited drawing programs on the school computers they received.
They thrive off of the art that we do in the classroom, the people and places that we learn about.
Our school has been closed since March 13. At this time we are unsure if the buildings will open, even if they do open the students will not be able to share the art supplies like we normally would. Whether distant or in person this will be a challenge for my students to be successful with their art.
My Project
Many of my students were unable to create art during their distance learning at the end of last year, either because they had no supplies or they left their supplies in the classroom. By getting these materials I will be able to make a supply kit for every student in my school. They will have every art supply necessary to make any type of art, whether it is a specific assignment or an open ended assignment.
These supplies will help the students be creative, express their emotions and will help them get through distance learning and this pandemic.
The students will learn to be responsible for their own items and to take care of them so that they have them for the school year. These materials will help them thrive in the art classroom, at home and in their hearts.
