Creating a Structured, Sensory-Friendly Learning Environment

My Project

As we prepare for a new school year, I am requesting support to purchase essential classroom supplies that will enhance learning, support student regulation, and create a more organized and sensory-friendly environment for all learners.

Fidgets and sensory tools are essential for students who benefit from sensory input to stay focused and self-regulated throughout the day.

Fidgets can include stress balls, textured items, pop-its, and quiet manipulatives that help students channel energy in appropriate ways while staying engaged in learning.

Sturdy wall or cubby hooks will help maintain order by providing designated spots for student belongings, backpacks, headphones, or adaptive equipment. Organized spaces reduce distractions and increase student independence.

Clear and labeled storage bins of various sizes will be used to organize learning materials, student work, sensory tools, and manipulatives. Accessible storage helps students locate and return materials on their own, promoting responsibility and efficiency in the classroom.

A sand tray provides a tactile way for students to practice writing letters, numbers, or words. It supports fine motor development and can be a calming, engaging alternative to paper-pencil tasks for students who need sensory input during learning.

Soft, calming light filters for overhead fluorescent lights will help reduce sensory overload and visual distractions. These covers create a more soothing atmosphere that supports focus, especially for students with sensory processing needs or autism.

These supplies will directly benefit students by supporting their sensory, organizational, and academic needs. A well-prepared, sensory-aware, and structured classroom is key to helping all students, especially those with special needs feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.
