This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

WHES serves an at-risk population where many students struggle with trauma due to gun violence in the community and their homes, domestic violence, parents' chronic substance abuse, abuse and neglect, and/or loss due to the death of a loved one, incarceration, or divorce. Yet, our students are extremely resilient. Given the right support, they can thrive.

We, the School Social Worker and School Psychologist, want to create a calming, peaceful space out of the storage room that is our office, and we need the therapeutic tools to use in group and individual counseling sessions and in the classrooms.

These include stress-relieving fidgets, arts and craft supplies for self-expression, social-emotional games and puzzles, a color printer to make packets of the activities that the students do in sessions, and a wide-screen computer monitor to display social-emotional learning videos.
