This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every child deserves to walk into a classroom where they feel safe, valued and ready to learn. I want my classroom this year to serve the different needs of a variety of academic, behavioral, sensory, and communication needs including ML learners, students with autism, and other exceptional learning needs.

This project will hopefully help transform our classroom into a calm, inclusive, sensory supportive learning environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The materials requested will help transform our classroom into a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment designed to meet students where they are. Flexible seating options, including bean bag chairs, inflatable seating, and floor cushions, will create a calming atmosphere. Warm lights will reduce the harsh effects of fluorescent lighting.

Sensory bins, fine motor tools, tweezers, scoops, textured materials, magnetic sorting tools, and alphabet manipulatives will provide hands-on opportunities for literacy, math, science, and sensory exploration while strengthening fine motor skills and increasing student engagement. Visual schedules, routine cards, and calming emotion posters will help students understand daily expectations, reduce anxiety around transitions, and build independence.

Students will also benefit from breathing tools, fidget resources, sensory bean bags, stress balls, and calming corner materials that teach healthy emotional regulation strategies and provide appropriate ways to manage frustration, stress, and sensory overload. Mini clipboards will support flexible learning throughout the classroom during small group instruction, independent work, and movement-based activities.

These resources will allow students to build literacy and math skills through structured play, sensory exploration, collaboration, and purposeful movement while developing confidence, communication, and social emotional skills. By creating predictable routines and a welcoming environment that celebrates every learner, this project will help students feel calm, connected, and successful so they can focus on what matters most-learning, growing, and reaching their fullest potential.
