My Project

Reading opens the door to imagination, learning, and opportunity, and I want every student who enters our classroom to feel excited about picking up a book. Thanks to a recently funded project, our classroom library will be filled with diverse chapter books that allow students to see themselves in stories while also learning about the experiences of others. Now, I hope to create a welcoming space that encourages students to spend time with those books. By adding a bookshelf and seating, my library area will be transformed into an environment that brings comfort and joy.

When students have a comfortable place to read, books become more than assignments, they become adventures waiting to be explored.

The bookshelf will help organize and display our new chapter books so students can easily browse and discover titles that interest them. The bean chairs and floor cushions will provide flexible seating options that allow students to read independently, partner read, or participate in small-group book discussions. When students feel comfortable and have choice in their learning environment, they are more likely to engage with reading and develop a lasting love of books.

The goal of this project is to build upon the excitement created by our newly funded classroom library and give students a space that makes reading feel special. I want my students to view reading as more than an academic task. I want it to become a source of enjoyment, adventure, and connection. What makes the students at our school special is their eagerness to learn and their willingness to share their discoveries with others. This reading space will help foster a community of readers who encourage one another, discuss the stories they love, and continue building the literacy skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
