My Students

My second-grade students are such amazing, curious, and energetic kids. One thing teachers have noticed since returning to the classroom from the COVID shutdown is the need for building the social/emotional tools our students possess. They love to explore and learn new things. In my classroom, I try my best to engage my students in learning using a variety of techniques. One way I love to engage my students is through technology. We are fortunate to have access to Chromebooks to use throughout the day and have a 1:1 ratio.

Technology is used throughout the day and serves as a resource and an extension to learning.

Our school provides access to several learning programs that engage technology in different ways. This provides students a great opportunity to learn to be smart and responsible with technology and how to be digital citizens.

My Project

One thing teachers have noticed since returning to the classroom from the COVID shutdown is the need for building the social/emotional tools our students possess. In my classroom, I have created a calm-down corner. We call it going on vacation. The bean bag chair I am asking for is for that little corner of peace and relaxation.

While technology was once a fun idea in a second-grade classroom, it is now a vital component to developing a well-rounded and capable student.

Having workable headphones will allow my students to complete assignments on their Chromebooks accurately and will help them focus as they won't be distracted by outside noises. This also allows me more flexibility in creating differentiated lessons as students with accommodations have the option of listening to instructions being read to them and utilizing the attached microphone to speak and record their thoughts into the platform we use. Additionally, the whole class will benefit from the microphone for partner work. With spacing needs due to COVID partner work has been greatly diminished. The use of break-out rooms in various platforms gives students the opportunity to do partner work but it can get very distracting and noisy when everyone is talking at the same time into their Chromebooks.

The seat pockets will allow the students to easily be able to get to the learning materials they need and will provide safe storage for their headsets so they don't get mixed up with another student.

Finally, the manipulatives I have asked for will add to my teaching dynamics and allow for ease of use when recording lessons for distance learning. In the classroom, it has the same effect in the ease of visibility with the magnetic component. The timers will provide additional flexibility and accountability in student choice activities.
