Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are all so very eager to learn and apply their knowledge, however, they are limited by what they can do because of the lack of materials to do so. The students in my school come from very different socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. There are many cultures and languages represented in our building and in my classroom. More than 50% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch this school year.

I want to offer a learning environment where they can become super excited about their learning experience!

What better way to do that than to spruce up our center time and provide them with engaging activities!

My Project

Some students are coming to school with elevated emotions and experience difficulty adapting to the school environment. Research has shown that creating calmness and mindfulness is an effective strategy for anxiety, anger, depression, and trauma.

By bringing in iPods with access to apps specifically designed for calming and regulating emotions though the use of breathing exercises and other calming techniques, I will be able to create opportunities for students to feel more comfortable and calm so they feel more rounded and are able to fully develop, grow, and learn to their fullest potential.

Our iPods will invite students to utilize their own self-regulation strategies to refocus and increase their social-emotional growth.
