This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Create Mini Engineering Labs for children During Distance Learning.
Our school district did provide some Engineering Mini Kits for distance learning.
However, the supplies are limited for the Engineering design process. I believe if our children had more supplies for the redesign process. Our students on line would have higher participation with hands on materials. These engaging at home Engineering activities could and would help bridge the ethic and gender gaps using STEM education activities. The extra materials and tools will help expand on opportunities for our students. Engineering and STEM activities has real life situations to help students learn. Programs like engineering integrates math and science provides opportunities to see how concepts relate to life in order to hopefully spark passion for future career in STEM field.

My Project
I believe if our children had more supplies for the engineering redesign process our students on line would have higher participation with hands on materials. Meaningful, real-world, open-ended challenges engage students in engineering activities that build confidence. Students will need specific materials to design different inventions. Example younger students will design different parachutes using wax paper, tin foil sheets, coffee filter, and tissue paper. Students will test which material that is best for their design in the parachute. The older grades will design ballon cars and test their designs. Students will test out designs when we return to school during Spring 2021. Programs like hands on engineering projects integrates math and science provides opportunities to see how concepts relate to life in order to will spark passion for future career in STEM field.
