This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am an art teacher in a predominately low-income school serving a community that has an intense need for love, support, and resources.
My school serves over 250 students who are diagnosed with several developmental and physical disabilities.
Many of these students also live in homeless shelters, are displaced in foster/kinship care, and have overcome many obstacles that children their age should never be subjected to.
Art gives my students hope and an outlet they can use to express their emotions, thoughts, hopes, and dreams.
My Project
My school community serves low-income families and students. Art gives them a gateway to another world where all their hopes, dreams, and wildest dreams are attainable.
In this project, we asked for construction paper, colored pencils, markers, pencils, googly eyes, glue, scissors, and bulletin board letters that will be used by the students to create their masterpieces and display them for the school to see.
We will use these supplies to create amazing works of art to go with our literature pieces.
With these supplies, we will be able to bring our work to life and build on our readers' imaginations!
