This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Title I, PreK - 8th grade school building is located in Yonkers, New York. The building is huge and we lack many resources. We have over 1,000 students and all receive free breakfast and lunch. Most come from Latin America and attend monolingual and bilingual classes. The students in my class come to school wanting to learn and work hard because school is a safe place for them to be.

This endeavor seeks to provide our students with hands-on involvement in the art of leather working and metal stamping, nurturing their artistic expression and refining essential skills.

Participation in these crafts not only acquaints students with traditional techniques but also enhances fine motor skills, attention to detail, and patience. This initiative presents a distinctive chance for students to delve into their artistic abilities while mastering the intricacies of leatherworking and metal stamping.

Throughout this project, students will not only craft beautiful, personalized artifacts but also cultivate problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, and an admiration for craftsmanship. It opens avenues for interdisciplinary learning, seamlessly blending art, history, and practical skills in a fulfilling manner.
