Ms. Krings from Ypsilanti MI is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a comfortable and welcoming place to read in our classroom library area.

This is my first year teaching fifth grade. I had the wonderful experience of student teaching at this school, and my students are some of the most curious, bright, and empathetic people I have had the honor of learning and loving with. That being said, many of my students do not have much at home. In a community where trauma is prevalent, many of my students have faced adversities that I couldn't imagine handling as an adult.
I want my students to feel a sense of community in my classroom, a place where they feel that they are safe and ready to learn.
As a teacher, I believe it is beyond important to create this strong community in my classroom. As a fifth grade family, we will instill the confidence in each other to achieve anything and everything we set our hearts and our heads to. With their willingness to push forward, despite the challenges they have faced outside of school, my students are the strongest people I know and I can't wait to help build them up even further.
It is extremely important to me to create a safe and comfortable environment for each of my fifth graders in our classroom. Flexible seating is one way to do this!
I have chosen a cushioned floor, a bean bag chair, and a saucer chair to place in our classroom library area.
This area will be available to students during silent reading periods, but for students who struggle in typical classroom seating, it may be an option during whole group or small group instruction.
When students are not comfortable, they can't learn effectively. I hope that this flexible furniture provides an area that every student can feel at home in!
