In a typical school year we tend to run out of some basic things before we run out of school days. This time we were in dire need for cleaning items and snacks for the clinic. \r\n\r\nSnacks are needed for long days when the younger students eat lunch around 11 a.m. but the day doesn't end until later in the afternoon. Or when a diabetic student needs something to eat that doesn't effect their numbers. Or even when a visitor needs a cool drink of water after helping in the classroom. The funding enabled us to provide tissues not only for the clinic, but for the main office and classrooms as well. Typically this is an item that we receive a few boxes in the beginning of the year. But before winter and winter germs get going, most teachers are out. This means they are spending their own money on yet another item for the classroom. \r\n\r\nIn the school clinic, I also prefer to have a tissue for the students and staff who come to see me. We use tissues for so many reasons, I'll spare the reader the details, but noses, mouths and abrasions produce messes which need gentle cleaning. This project allowed us to have an ample supply to make it through the rough winter sick seasons and seasonal allergy season. Every day ice packs are given out for comfort or first aid. In an elementary school clinic we handle everything from minor scrapes and bruises, to baby teeth coming out, to significant falls from playground equipment. The ability to throw some ice cubes quickly into a baggie and give it to an upset student starts the healing process. \r\n\r\nPreviously we had to freeze bags in a small refrigerator. Sometimes we had to make extra ice packs and store them around the school. However, with others knowing where to find the ice packs, we didn't always have them for the clinic when needed. This counter top unit is compact, makes ice all day long and can be monitored. Also, much thanks for the bandaids too!
