This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our cozy corner is looking good! My students enjoy going there to read, work, and talk with peers. I love that they are able to enjoy the cozy corner when they want to relax or regroup when anxious. It has been a great addition to our classroom, and I would like to add a few more items to make it complete.

Providing students with flexible seating options is important in today's classroom.

It is important to motivate students, and giving them choices in the classroom while learning has made a difference over the past couple of years. Our cozy corner currently has some floor cushions and soft seats. I would like to add some pillows, lap desks, and additional cushions that will enable my students to work on our larger classroom rug. These pillows will be used as they lie down or lounge on the rug when reading independently and during our read-aloud time. Being able to lie down while reading has motivated many of my students to read for pleasure. Adding new pillows and cushions will enable more of my students to do so during the day. The lap desks will enable them to work collaboratively on the rug. They can also use them as they practice writing skills on their own.
