Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

​My students are now a combination of English speakers and English language learners that want to become bilingual. They are just beginning to learn to read, write, and count in both languages. My students will be exposed to the material in English and Spanish. Our school is a Title I. I have to lend them books so their parents can read to them at home.

My students are energetic and curious learners.

They are learning to develop their own opinions. They enjoy finding patterns and playing card games that develop their mental math and subitizing skills.

My Project

My students received a set of Classic Digi Blocks and loved counting them. I would like to get a Power set of Digi Blocks because those are color-coded based on their place value. This will help students visualize each place value with greater ease. They will be able to recognize the blocks because they differ in color. The blocks made it easier for students to count greater numbers in first grade. They worked in groups to count three-digit numbers. They shared their responses and were excited to count more blocks/greater numbers.
