My Students

High school students want to find any excuse possible to act like they are still in elementary school. Spanish class is the perfect place for this since their language skills are much lower than their actual age range.

My students have multiple opportunities to practice writing, speaking, and listening in class but I find that they are lacking motivation and interest when it comes to reading.

I would love to provide them with the resources to relive their earlier school days in a different language.

My Project

My students need a variety of familiar children's books written in Spanish, such as Perro Grande..Perro Peque (Big Dog Little Dog,) Corre, Perro, Corre! (Go Dog Go!) Hay Luz en el Desvan, and Eres Tu Mi Man? (Are You My Mother?") I have requested one copy of many common English childrens' books written in Spanish. There are enough for every student to be reading a different book that they may have loved to read as a child. I am hoping this will also help them with their intonation while reading aloud as this seems to be a problem for them when they speak Spanish. It is difficult to know how to portray the feelings behind the words if they are not familiar with the Spanish vocabulary. I have also included a couple of more advanced books for those students who need more of a challenge.

With your help, my students will be able to practice reading, an important Spanish skill that they have not been interested in improving.

It will provide them with the chance to practice reading and hopefully make the time enjoyable.
