Can you imagine what sixth graders would feel like getting to experience learning while having fun and being engaged? Learning should be fun and available for every student. There are countless ways of learning with an iPad and the amazing apps that are available for the education of students.
My students are from a particularly unwealthy part of Oklahoma.
These students have little opportunities to use computers or the Internet at home. Many do not know how to use a computer to research topics or write an essay. They have not been given the opportunity to learn through technology.
The community has little money to donate and the school has limited resources for computers in the computer labs. The computers they do have are breaking and having other difficulties.
These students are very eager to learn and love every moment they have to use the computers for learning. They are very grateful and know how to be respectful of things that don't belong to them or are expensive to buy or replace.
My Project
An iPad can improve students' learning in many ways. Students would be able to research information more efficiently through online encyclopedias or other useful websites. Individuals or groups can collaborate together to create media presentations, electronic graphs, and data tables for their Science Fair projects or research papers.
During class discussion or small groups, the students can look up information as the topic arises. Students can submit quizzes online, helping to minimize paper use. iTunesU is a very useful app that educates students like a teacher would. They can download books to help them better understand the topic being covered. There is truly an unlimited amount of benefit for having a class iPad.
Learning how to use computers and the Internet is essential for students in the future work force.
The iPad would enable them to learn in a class group, small groups, and/or individually through the hundreds of apps that are aligned with the Oklahoma PASS skills. The apps provided by the iPad will teach to all levels of learning and will benefit the students by engaging them in learning content and key skills for future workers.
