My Students

This webpage won't load! I missed lunch waiting because this computer is slower than a turtle! These are just a few of the comments I hear from my students daily. I personally purchased the laptop in my classroom 7 years ago. To say the least, it is hardly worth trying to use these days.

My students are 6th graders attending public school in south Louisiana.

They are eager to learn, and generally strive toward excellence. Many come from challenging home situations where they do not have anyone encouraging them to be the best they can be. Daily I try to encourage each one in some way. You never know the impact a kind word can have on a child! Some of their circumstances at home prevent them from having access to the technology that is vitally important to the Common Core Standards they will face in English Language Arts. No child should suffer for this reason. Every child deserves every opportunity to be successful, and my students are no different. I want to see my sweet 6th graders have all the tools they need to be successful. They have great minds! They will be excellent leaders in the future!

My Project

With the new Common Core Standards that our students will be required to meet in English Language Arts, comes a greater need for access to technology. These new standards focus on preparing students for college, workforce training, and living life in a society where every aspect is steeped in technology. Having a more updated laptop in our classroom will give them a readily available resource to conduct research in order to answer questions, analyze texts, and produce presentations to share their work with classmates. Just like life today, this new curriculum puts great emphasis on consuming and producing media forms of various types. This laptop will be just what the students need to conduct research and then present their finding to the class in creative and meaningful ways. How exciting it will be to see all that they can accomplish with a new laptop!

The impact of having a laptop available for daily use will give students great freedom to enjoy research and the opportunity to transform that information into exceptional presentations to share with their classmates.

For students personally, the ability to succeed through the use of technology, may lead them to their life's passion. You could be a part of changing a student's life by contributing!
