Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting materials for my third-grade students to build a composting system in our school. Students would learn about composting and the effects of composting on the environment. They would learn that saving our planet starts with US!

My goal for this project is for my students to become the teachers.

Student enrichment will occur when my students create a presentation in which they will teach all about composting to grades K-4! Therefore, reaching our whole school. Students will learn about what belongs in compost bins and what does not. The goal is also for students to become more self-aware of how much waste they produce. My students will help other students with the disposal of their waste and sorting it appropriately.

I believe this whole school project with be life changing for my students. As well as give them the confidence to be leaders within our school. This project would instill responsibility within my students. I believe this project would teach/help with the social and emotional wellbeing of students and staff by showing them that they can make a difference with just one change they're making in their daily lives. It would be my student's job to teach, sort through waste, check and adjust our compost, and create soil for our school greenhouse garden. My students are so bright, kind, caring, and absolutely love learning!

Learning acceleration and academic renewal would occur, as I give students a new way of learning Science and Social Studies standards that is a more hands on approach. They will get to start a movement in which they will physically see their waste become soil to grown fruits and veggies! I hope my student-centered approach to learning is fulfilled, as my students would be overjoyed!
