This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My English IV students are critical thinkers who also require books that are engaging and informative. These students are sponges who soak up content and can readily apply it, so I am constantly searching for and purchasing books for them to exercise their skills.
My students have a multitude of interests that are best cultivated by contemporary yet complex novels that we can discuss as a class.
My Project
I previously purchased Everything I Never Told You for an AP Literature and Composition course. I began the course with the novel, and it was a great way to set the foundational needs of the course. We used the novel to discuss nonlinear plots and characterization. However, I had a much smaller class last year and must now buy more to accommodate this year's need.
The was a standout of the year and garnered great discussions about race, classism, and parental expectations.
I expect another great response, and this project will assist in ensuring there are enough books for my students.
