Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an inner city school located in North Las Vegas. The median household income in our area is between $25,000 to $30,000. Most of our students didn't have the opportunity to play baseball when they were younger due to finances. We accept all students to our program and want them to experience the great game of baseball.
My students are hardworking and truly have a passion for the game.
They truly want to be successful and are willing to work hard for it. I honestly can say I'm lucky to coach the students that I have because they work for everything and expect nothing to be given to them. Most of them are working hard in the classroom & look at baseball as a way to help them get to college. Lastly, my students skill levels range from beginners to college prospects.
My Project
This is currently my 2nd year as the Head Baseball Coach and we are working on getting the proper equipment to better prepare our student athletes. When I was hired last year the program didn't have baseballs so we have been working on getting the essentials for our student athletes. We are currently fundraising for dimple balls which will be used for our pitching machine & a hitting aid called the line drive pro. Our program works with players of all skills levels & we want every single one of them to gain confidence at the plate by using these tools.
We compete in the toughest league in Southern Nevada and we need to be able to hit against quality pitching to be competitive.
The pitchers we see throughout the year range anywhere from 80 mph-88 mph. My players truly deserve the opportunity to succeed and I want to give them all the tools they need to be successful especially at the plate. My players will work on their swings with the line drive pro & get plenty of live pitches through the pitching machine with dimple balls. I believe these tools can really help us begin to develop into a better offensive team which will allow my players to compete in games as a reward for all their hard work.
