I am a sixth/seventh/eighth grade Reading and Language Arts Intervention teacher. My reading classes are composed of fifteen students, who are receiving bilingual services, special education services, or both. This class is designed for students who are struggling readers. Whether it is a lack of books in their household, their parents not having a formal education from their native country, or a disability, these students have grown up disliking reading. I want to create an environment that not only encourages reading but gives my students a place of comfort while enjoying books.
Having comfortable seats in my reading class would create an inviting atmosphere where the students would be encouraged to read, and be comfortable doing it. Right now, they are allowed to sit on the carpeted floor, or in their seats, but how nice would it be if they could have a special reading section for themselves?
By your generous donations, I am hoping that this comfortable furniture would help their love for reading grow!
It is hard to find the students books they love to read, but what shouldn't be hard, is decorating the comfortable area where their love for reading can grow.
