This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a school social worker in a culturally diverse and at times challenged community. I have amazing students that are strong, resilient, and challenged by life. They are able to take on hard things and move forward with grace. They deserve so much support in order to tackle anything life throws at them.

The world often sees our school and our students as less than, but they are so much more than the stereotype given to them by outsiders.

Their ability to overcome amazes me on a daily basis. They are my Super Heroes.

My Project

The chaos and noise of the world today can be overwhelming. My students have to navigate so much just to make it to school, let alone be in a place where they are emotionally ready to learn. I am creating a calming room where students can take a moment to get a in an emotional place where they can learn. These bean bag chairs will help create a comfortable environment where students who need to take a moment to self regulate can relax. The space will be used to hold multiple support groups. Our self-care and grief groups will be able to move into a better space for healing to occur.

These Bean Bag chairs will create a space where my students can relax their minds and their bodies.

This new space will be able to provide healing to students who have lost so much during this pandemic.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
