Our third graders are bright, inquisitive, and active children. They are eager to learn, explore, and work together. We need books with diversity; especially looking for books with Black girls or boys, as the main protagonist. They need to see people past and present that represent them. White students also need to see the influence of Black people in the world.
We are a Title I School, with almost 65% of our families on free or reduced lunch.
We are a rich community of diversity. Our students are not only American born, but we have children from Kenya, Afghanistan, Philippines, Nigeria, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Thailand, Mexico, Honduras, and Burma...just to name a few countries. We are working hard to learn to treat one another with respect and also becoming responsible and productive in our classroom.
My Project
The books on reading and writing strategies will help this teacher instruct children in our new curriculum, more effectively. We are working on increasing their stamina, as they become better readers and authors. My district won't provide curriculum support, and I am grateful that I can find materials that will help me be a better educator.
Variety of color options will excite and energize my young third graders.
The colored pens, Crayola sticks , and colored tape will help to organize our supplies, their materials, and bring color into their projects. They will use them for 'rainbow editing', coloring art projects, science posters, etc.
