Coloring Inside And Outside The Lines

Help me give my students watercolor pencils that work well in the classroom, but also are terrific for home use, in case students find themselves in the position of having to learn from home.

My Students

I have an amazing group of students this year. Of course, because of remote learning the past year, I have only recently met them in person since the start of our fall semester.

My students come from wide varieties of cultures and neighborhoods.

Some students live right down the block, while others drive in from neighboring areas, in hopes for a better placement with more opportunities or because they need the special services offered by our special ed program, the recreation after school program or to be near the CYC (Community Youth Center). Half of my students are equipped with the daily supplies and tools needed to be a successful learner, but the other half have serious, pressing issues and stressors that make learning a challenge. Some of these students have language barriers, as they are trying to learn English and fit in to a new middle school environment.

My Project

My 7th and 8th grade Art I classes are about to start our unit on color, just as the latest Covid variant is spreading. This means, that a lot of my students are now learning from home. It also means, that where possible, I make supply kits for students that are home-bound.

Crayola makes a terrific product to use in the classroom setting, and their watercolor pencils are both economical and fun to use.

This product, along with the watercolor paper, would be a great, material addition to our Art Classroom.
