Color Me Wonderful!

My Students

Imagine learning a new concept or a new word and wondering what it means or how it looks like. My class has a large number of ELL students that need a pictorial image for their new vocabulary. Bringing real life images into the classroom will help their comprehension and retention.

This year I am excited to implement the new GLAD strategies into my classroom.

This program uses real life pictures for the new vocabulary and teacher-made books to help students learn academic vocabulary. With almost half of my students being ELL, bright, colored pictures will help with comprehension and acquisition of new concepts or words that otherwise would remain abstract. Unfortunately, we have only one color printer that makes it hard to create classroom materials needed for instruction. Having a color printer not only for my class but sharing with the rest of the intermediate classes will benefit so many students and teachers. Also, to encourage my students to read and love books, I created a cozy corner for them to seat comfortably and enjoy reading. My couch is falling apart and students have a hard time sitting on it. A new couch will not only make it inviting and comfortable, but also visually appealing. Please help me make learning fun and interesting!

My Project

This project is mainly focused on 2 big items that will enhance learning experiences in my classroom: a color printer and a new couch. The color printer will benefit not only my students but the entire intermediate wing in our school as we all started to implement the GLAD strategies. This new program requires teachers to print color pictures for the new concepts or vocabulary taught in class and create teacher-made books. Students will access these materials during the entire unit and learn from visual aids what otherwise would be abstract and/or unknown. Printing black and white makes it hard for students to see what the real thing looks like. The program brings reality/real life into the classroom. The couch is needed for my reading corner, to replace the existing couch that is falling apart and makes sitting on it almost impossible. My students love that little cozy corner and we actually have to take turns weekly- for each group to have a chance to sit on the couch.

I need your help to purchase these two items that will help make learning more interesting.

The color printer will help 10 teachers and hundreds of students by bringing to life abstract concepts and new vocabulary. It will create colorful anchor posters that will demonstrate students' learning and create more resources available in each classroom anytime the students need them. The couch will encourage students read and spend time in the library corner enjoying a good book. Please help us learn.
