These books are short, cute stories that introduce phonics rules. They have characters and a storyline that makes sense to kids and engages them in remembering these tricky English rules. \r\n\r\nIn my class, I have been able to read several of these books so far as we have introduced new phonics skills. The kids are always intent in listening and excited when we get to pull out a new one. It makes them want to learn more and more phonics rules! When we refer back to the rule, I can reference the book, making those brain connections more powerful. Our favorite one has been The Overly Controlling Bossy R. I am excited to teach them more of these rules as well throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1744257433570,"projectUrl":"project/phonics-friends-and-their-rules/9237207/","projectTitle":"Phonics Friends and Their Rules","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dupras","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1930948_orig.jpg?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1595309306296","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1930948"},{"teacherId":1930948,"projectId":9177839,"letterContent":"My class has been loving all of the amazing materials provided in this project. We were able to start the year off with brand new pencil boxes for each student. This made them feel loved and welcome from the very first day of school. We use the tree stump stools every day for sitting in during partner work and reading. They are an adorable component to our classroom, and very comfortable and functional. The kids always ask me to go sit on them in our reading nook. The games have been an amazing component to our Fun Friday free time and have gotten students off of technology and playing together. I have enjoyed teaching them how to play the games and watching them work together in a fun space. Mancala is one that has been a favorite of mine to watch them learn, as I loved this game growing up as well. \r\n\r\nWithout your support, my students wouldn't have the opportunity for all of these wonderful extras. They deserve to have beautiful, nice things and spaces in their classroom and have treated our room with the highest of respect. More than half of my class does not speak English at a basic level, let alone fluently. However, I also have students working above grade level. It's important to have resources that allow me to simultaneously teach to everyone's learning levels and needs. \r\n\r\nI've used the privacy boards for one group of 3rd grade students to test, while one set of small groups are working on basic vocabulary and another set of small groups are working on grade level materials for 4th grade. It has allowed me to use the small space of my classroom to conduct a variety of learning experiences. \r\n\r\nIn addition, I've used the magnet boards for those same students to present information they gathered on topics. The new students who don't speak English can read off the boards with the assistance of their peers and still be part of the presentations. \r\n\r\nWe also use the pencil sharpeners EVERY day! The other miscellaneous supplies support our learning as well.
