My Students

My school is a Title I Montessori school in North Charleston, South Carolina and is a school-wide Title I school based on the percentage of students on free/reduced-price lunch. This is a federally funded program. These funds are used to reduce class size and ensure appropriate resources are available to each student. The school has a diverse student body that serves students from preschool through eighth grade. There are about 360 students attending our school.

The mission of our school is to develop invested relationships between students, staff, families, and the community, to create a child-centered, hands-on invitational prepared environment where all students are high achievers and act responsibly as global citizens, to learn together in a professional learning community, and to provide a positive climate and culture where respect for self and others through grace and courtesy and a passion for learning are felt, heard, and seen.

My Project

These materials will enhance student learning by aiding in collaboration, critical thinking, and creative skill growth. My students love to come into the library and participate in different learning stations and activities. The robot toy and 163 piece STEM kit will be used at the tinkering station to develop STEM skills. The memory games, Battleship, Traffic Jam, playing cards, and I Sea 10 games will be used at different game stations to develop academic skills, as well as collaboration and team building skills. All of these items will allow my students to challenge themselves and their developing makerspace mindset. These items promote collaboration, critical thinking, and creative skills, which will help my students become successful 21st century learners. These items will also be used throughout the entire school, ensuring that all students have access to these materials. My goal as a librarian is to instill a love of learning and exploration in my students; therefore, making learning fun is essential in peaking my students' interests. These items will interest my students, as well as develop and strengthen valuable social and academic skills.
