My Project

“Hey, teacher, we should do more activities like this, it makes the math fun,” voiced one of my students. That was the day I decided that my students deserved to practice the math content in a fun way. Supplementing the curriculum with escape rooms and collaborative mosaics from Teachers Pay Teachers is my request.

Employing escape rooms and collaborative mosaics will provide the fun and practice students need to become better problem solvers.

I will use the Function and Solving Equations Escape room bundle and Calford’s collaborative mosaics as cumulative unit activities to reinforce concepts. The collaborative mosaic requires students solve a set of problems and use their answers to color a grid based on their answers using colored pencils. The grids are then put together to create one picture. The colored pencils will ensure that each student has the needed supplies to participate. Using the Function Escape room , students will work together to crack the codes as they practice working with functions. Each task for the escape room is different. I plan on using different color paper for each task. Using color copy paper for each task allows me to visually check the progress of each group quickly. As we near the end of the school year, I will also use 8th grade Review escape room to prepare my students for the 8th grade assessment.

My plan is to use purchased materials to motivate students to work together and discuss the math as they “escape” or produce a mosaic. If I can get students talking to each other, exploring and thinking through the math, learning is more likely to happen. I need your help to help my students to enjoy their journey to becoming great problem solvers.
