Cold Floors Are No Fun! A Comfy Rug Can Help With Learning!

My students need comfy places like a carpet and soft seats to learn, read, and engage with our interactive whiteboard! The cold floor is not cutting it!

My Students

How do you learn best? Probably in a really comfortable place! My kids need the same thing! We desperately need a big rug for a big class, and soft seats for quiet and comfortable reading!

My kids are super passionate, enthusiastic, diverse, low income kindergartners.

There are 23 different home languages spoken at my school, and (at least) 5 different ones spoken in my classroom. Bringing technology and experiences to them outside of field trips is key to enriching their experiences and exposing them to the world, so the interactive whiteboard is a gateway. We use it all the time, but the students are forced to sit in their seats, some quite far from the board, because we have no carpet to put in front of the board.

My Project

Right now, our whiteboard is situated opposite our permanent carpet on the other side of the room. I know they are yearning to be close to the board and touch it, but for now, seats are better than the cold floor! With the new rug, I could get them that much closer to the action, creating way more engagement! When it's time for quiet reading, it can be hard to find quiet in a busy kindergarten classroom. The soft seats will let my learners find a place that will work best for them to focus and practice their skills.

For some of my students, school is the safest place they spend time.

Some of my students are homeless, which means that they depend on school to be a safe, comfortable haven for them. This rug will enhance their daily experience and help to create an atmosphere of safety and caring at school.
