It's true! We've had good conversations as a class using the books, and I am grateful to have them as they are not one and done books. What I am most proud of is noticing kids read the books, over and over again, taking with other kids, reading them together, and repeating on another topic. Our books I thought would be read first have been read once or twice, like the little chapter books or the silly picture books. The \"A Kids Book About..\" is in continuous circulation in the classroom after we have read together as a class. Kids are ready and they treasure these books. Thank you for helping equip our classroom with the materials we need for a 2026 world. We are so grateful for the incredible additions to our classroom the library. We have been using the colored pencils for creating maps in social studies, drawing a food web for literacy to understand why scientists and artists are inspired by the ocean, and neon is always fantastic for editing your work in writing.\r\n\r\nThe play doh can help some students feel calm and we also used it to build a physical topological map of Oregon that we matched to a satellite image. We started the school year about three weeks ago and we have already found many opportunities to use all of our math/classroom tools. For example: student mailboxes are used daily so that students can transition from their homeclass to my math class without needing to bring any supplies. Inside their mailboxes they have the pencil boxes which were also purchased through the project. These pencil boxes are not only used for pencils and crayons, but also to house their login information for testing, etc.\r\n\r\nIn terms of tools, we are loving beginning to understand how to use the rekenreks. So far we are only working within ten and below, however we are building up to adding and subtracting within 20 and these tools will help students immensely with independent calculations. Students are also learning how to use a number line to solve problems under ten and thanks to your donations, all students have their own rekenrek for up to 20 as well as their own dry erase number lines. These are all just snapshots of how we are using the tools. \r\n\r\nI told the students today that all of these tools were a gift from donors just for them. They were very surprised, honored and grateful.
