Coding - The New Second Langugae

My students need a classroom set of Dash robots. My school has 35 classrooms and 5 specials areas (Spanish, Art, PE, Music, and Media); Five robots would benefit all classes.

My Students

The overall climate and culture at my elementary school is amazing. The students are eager to learn. They are bright, hard working, and the most cooperative group that I have ever worked with. They get the work done, regardless of the task. I'm very excited to get have the opportunity to teach these students.

Our students speak 23 different languages, and their cultures and beliefs are just as diverse.

However, when they walk in the front door, they are a single student body. Amazingly, there are no discipline problems at this school. Learning is the main objective for all students, and education is a high priority among the families here.

My Project

The Dash robots and accessories will be used in every grade level and in every specials class. I have coding applications for every grade level and in all curriculum areas, so we could get started right away.

Dash robots will take coding from a block script to a moving robot!

Students will learn how to program the robot through a maze, to play music, to learn directions in Spanish, etc. The possibilities are endless. Coding is a perfect avenue for teaching the 4CS: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

Computer sciences are not at the forefront in our school as they should be. This project would be a first step to change this.
