Coding into the Future with Robots

Help me give my students wonder workshop coding robots to instill creativity and innovative thinking for my students.

My Students

My students are an active group of fourth graders who are always ready to be movers and shakers, literally! They are creators, writers, builders, thinkers, and readers ready to take on the challenges of being active learners and change makers.

Innovative thinkers and the desire to create and explore technology make them hungry for robotics and coding activities.

My students come from a small town setting with big city dreams. Many of our students (67%) receive free or reduced-price lunch, but that statistic does not hold them back although it has created additional challenges. Many of them are unable to purchase basic winter clothing that is needed to play outside in the winter. They also have food insecurity, making healthy snacks a vital part of our school day.They are eager to learn and build on their current knowledge. They are enthusiastic in everything they do and never turn down a challenge.

My Project

These materials will help my students gain the critical thinking skills they will need in the 21st century job market. Coding and computer science will help my students to be active problem solvers and risk takers through the creation and development of coding challenges.

Collaboration and communication skills will be developed as they work through the coding challenges these robots will provide.

Students will work together to create their own pathways and seek to explore other ideas.

In addition to the educational component, these robots will create excitement and fun for all of my students no matter their ability.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
