My Students

I work at a school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our school serves a diverse group of students. Our students are very hard workers who are not afraid to think carefully and critically about mathematics.

My students are not shy about difficult and complex math problems, in fact, my students are always excited for a challenge.

I can see their brains working every single day in my class regardless of their past experiences in life.

My Project

Many students are struggling to engage with mathematics after two years of disruptive learning due to Covid-19; but fear not! Hands on lessons and supplies to facilitate hands on lessons will increase student engagement and learning.

Students will use the notebook supplies, like grid composition notebooks, glue sticks, and dry erase markers to make physical notes about the hands on lessons/experiments we do in class.

Students will be excited to finally put their knowledge of sine, cosine, and tangent to the "real world" test by using a clinometer to calculate the hight of our school building, trees, flag poles and other tall objects.

Finally, students will be able to touch algebra in a way that is not possible without Algebra Tiles. Algebra Tiles allow students to conceptualize and visualize algebra, variables, and equations in a way that is just not possible without physical tiles.
