A survey completed by Kind Direct shows that an alarming number of families finances is forcing them to choose food over toiletries’ and hygiene products. This change has contributed to our students not being prepared for school through poor grooming. The effects of poverty are evident as students are now filthy and have personal body odors. Notwithstanding, the change in these students' interest level in learning has started to waver. The school is the setting where we embrace our students through grooming, feeding and educating them. The entire community wishes the best for our students and supports their emotional and social needs. We applaud our students' ability to show interest in learning despite dealing with poverty issues.
When groomed properly, our students feel better and are mentally prepared to conquer the world.
The school holds itself responsible for meeting the needs of students through showering, washing hair, and providing toiletries. Being forced to make choices of eating versus hygiene should not be a hindrance to students' learning. We are determined by all means necessary to support our students' every need, therefore, boasting and not lowering their self-esteem. Our number one goal is to teach, love, groom and prepare our students.
Through funding this grant which includes deodorant, soap, comb/brush, body gel, boys socks, belts, hair clippers, blow dryer, curling irons, towels, etc. my students will be free to learn and concentrate without stress. Through having toiletries to use to assist our students with preparing for not only learning but life. New toiletries will boost students’ self-esteem and risks of having mental issues. Students will be prepared for learning without feeling stressed due to not having basic hygiene items.
This grant will eradicate diseases (example: scabies) that my students often experience due to living in unclean conditions.
Absenteeism will decline because of having toiletries (hair products, soap for cleaning, sanitary napkins, etc.) for grooming. Building confidence in students through basic necessities will help prevent student dropout rates, ensure students feel loved while learning, and help students achieve their dreams and goals by staying in school and going to college. Students’ confidence and educational success are tightly intertwined therefore, it is important to help students on their journey to excelling through learning. Confidence in school is one of the most important areas, outside of academics, where educators and parents can help improve performance through meeting students’ hygiene needs. Lastly, students will gain confidence from feeling free to interact with their peers because their inhibitions of not being accepted by others will decline.
