One thing that all my students have in common is that they thrive on positive relationships. What I have seen in my 19 years of teaching is that students are able to make more gains when their learning can be more customized and the teaching more intentional. My students have made great gains by experiencing this through small group teaching.
Fifth graders, like all of us who continue to learn and grow are able to do it better through small, personal interactions with someone we have a relationship with and where our learning is clearly defined and purposeful for us.
My students come from various backgrounds, some with a stable home, others, however many have little if no stability or structure in their lives except when they are at school. They all want to have those positive relationships and to be successful.
My Project
Students will be able to use technology in the classroom to explore and research various topics. Also, they will be able to work in small groups and record their thoughts. Often in our classroom students are on interactive sites and need to listen to the computer but I do not have a classroom set of headphones for each student to use.
Most of my students cannot afford their own headphones and therefore aren't not always able to use them in the classroom since we do not have classroom sets.
Students will be able to listen on their chrome books while working independently without disrupting the classroom. EXPO markers allow students to write on slates during small reading groups.
