My Students
The students that walk through my classroom door on the first day of school forever become, "my kids." Even when they come back to visit years later, I still think of them as "my kids."
I want the best for my students in every aspect of their education.
I teach at a school that serves lower income families (over 60% are on free or reduced lunches) and roughly 65% are English learners. They have diverse backgrounds and speak several different languages. It is one of my goals to celebrate all of our differences my students bring to the classroom, our school, and community.
My Project
In my fifth grade class, we've just begun a literacy unit on the book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. We have one book, so they are listening to me read aloud to them, but with all the incredible themes woven into this book, it's hard for us to really dig deep into the meaning and have rich discussions without student copies.
"When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind."
The above quote is one of my favorites, and is one of the many lessons I want my students to take away with them after we complete this unit, and more importantly, live their lives by.
