When the boxes first arrived, my students were full of excitement. Sorting the miniature items into the corresponding tubs was their favorite day of intervention yet! The joy and curiosity these miniatures sparked immediately transformed our lesson from the usual routine to a multi-sensory experience.\r\n\r\nWe have already put these resources to work during our small group intervention sessions. This week, one group used the tubs to practice beginning blends. Having objects to reference helped the students repeat the word until they were able to identify the different sounds more clearly. In another group, I watched a struggling reader begin to identify the difference between the \"ch\" and \"sh\" sounds by sorting objects like the tiny chair and the tiny shell into their respective tubs. This multi-sensory approach is building the confidence they need to tackle more complex words.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are delving deeper into writing clear and complete sentences. These tubs will continue to be a vital part of that journey as we use the objects to create simple sentences. \r\n\r\nThe repetition needed to learn to read can often feel tedious, but thanks to you, my students view it as a fun, hands-on adventure. Not only are we building rich vocabulary but internalizing how story structure works. \r\n\r\nWe are even realizing misconceptions and correcting when children recreate a nonfiction book of polar bears and add penguins to their storytelling.
